Boating, canoeing and kayaking
Lake Kallavesi has always played an integral part in defining Savo, its people and its culture. Anyone can understand why this is so by touring the Kuopio region by boat, canoe, kayak or jet ski. Lean-to shelters, campfire sites and log cabins placed conveniently along the routes complete the experience.

Boating routes

Kuopio’s location along the shoreline of Lake Kallavesi creates simply outstanding boating and canoeing circumstances, which make it clear why sailing is such a popular activity in the region. The newest sailing route goes by way of Riistavesi and Summa to Vehmersalmi and then on to Lake Kallavesi. This route, along with the Tahko waterway, is the most popular and recommended trip route for day or half-day trips. Both routes introduce the finest aspects of Finnish seafaring: clear blue lakes, vibrant lakeside forests, rural towns and farmlands…
The Tahko route also includes the Tahko holiday resort, making combinations of different holiday activities easy.

Two new bases for boats have been constructed along the Riistavesi-Vehmersalmi route:

At the Summa dock there are a cooking shelter, toilet facilities, woodshed and separate quays for boats and canoes (picture). The site is suitable for handicapped persons.

Kipansalo has a lean-to shelter, toilet facilities, woodshed and a sauna allowing travelers to stay overnight. The area is also suitable for tents. There are separate quays for boats and canoes.

Along the Tahko sailing route, a fishing hut has been constructed at Purtosaari and a lean-to shelter at Matkustavirta. Both sites are equipped with toilet facilities and woodsheds. Matkustavirta has separate quays for canoes and boats.

In Vehmersalmi’s Kohmanvesi lake, there is a well-equipped lean-to shelter situated at Hiisiniemi cape.
