Kuopio Dance Festival is here again 15.-21.6!

Long waited 53. Kuopio Dance Festival starts again on Wednesday 15.6.2022. There are international top level dance groups in the program, as well as interesting new names. According to Festival`s Art Director Riku Lehtopolku - word "together" connects somehow all art works at the festival. 

Free of charge program daily at the Market Place and in Music Center

There are a lot of free of charge performances coming during the festival: as usual, there are versatile programs at the Market Place every day at 11 am. Also there are daily free programs in Music Center`s Valohalli hall.

During the opening day 15.6. dancing premiere Virta spreads around the city, which combines together 140 young dancers from all over Finland. On Saturday 18.6. we can feel some carneval atmosphere, when cheerful carneval procession spreads out to city`s streets. 

Together - is the connection word for all dance artworks 

Sense of community and word "together" are emphasized in the festival`s program. Artwork North Korea Dance by choreographer Eun-Me Ahn from South Korea opens the festival week. This performance, full of glaring colors, opens the curtain to North Korea`s dance culture and it`s development in the closed society. You can see some virtuoso acrobatics, combined with military atmosphere and humour.
 
For Riku Lehtopolku, who has started as the Art Director in 2020, this summer is the first traditional festival week ensemble to accomplish.

– I hope, that Kuopio Dance Festival will be a meeting place, where we can see each other in the city, talk and share experiences. I wanted to make some different realization forms and also take dance away from traditional stages, so programs can reach various audiences and needs.

In the program are international top level groups and interesting new names

Born in Israel Emanuel Gat`s LOVETRAIN2020 crashes together British Tears For Fearsin music and choreography of modern musical, which was praised by critics all over the world. According to The New York Times "amazing, licentious and still exact" performance is a celebration of body, show and life. 

Northern countries`dancing art is represented by Norwegian choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen`s performance Story, story, die. Rich of movement and cinematic artwork considers, what human is ready to do to get attention and approval.
 
Performances One More Thing by Israeli choreographer Adi Boutrous and Spanish La Veronalin Sonoma finish the festival week.
 
Additionally we will see in the program French Aurélien Bory`s performance-installation Corps Noir, originally made for Picasso Museum in Paris, which exposes human`s internal, organic, feeling and sensible body.
 
Finnish dance art is represented by famous of acrobatic skills Kinetic Orchestra with Sanni Giordan`s performance Mostly Mass. Artwork by Sandrina Lindgren and Ishmael Falk Invisible countries tells about migrants`s reality intimately and personally. 
 
Celebrating 10th anniversary Carl Knif Company visits the festival with it`s installation-like community artwork Trip, which choreographer Carl Knif creates together with a group of dancers and festival audience. In addition we can see in the City Hall Italian Alessandro Sciarroni`s performance Save the last dance for me.
