Puijo continues to peak – the renewed Tower Restaurant to open on 27.8.19
The development of Puijo’s peak area is going forward step by step – on Tuesday August 27th the completely renewed Tower Restaurant will open its doors. Local producers and local produce, as well as Kuopio’s nature, play a leading role in the restaurant’s concept.
The grand opening of the renewed restaurant will take place on Tuesday 27th of August. The restaurant relies on local producers: Beef comes from Pesolan Pihviliha in Iisalmi, vegetables and wild herbs from Kaikontarha in Vehmersalmi, onions from Vehviläinen in Siilinjärvi and organic eggs from the Karhumäki farm in Pajujärvi, for example. At the moment 85 % of all the ingredients come from local producers and the goal is to hit 100 % sometime next year.
– Local producers play the lead role and our objective is that all our producers can be spotted from the tower, states Eeva Mertanen, the CEO of Ravintolamestarit Ltd.

The pride and joy of the Tower Restaurant is a table full of Puijo’s local food. The food and menu vary not only by the season but also by the ingredients and produce the producers have to offer at any given time. Some dishes may vary even weekly. In addition, wild herbs are harvested from Puijo’s woods. Eco-friendly thinking and reducing food waste have also been taken into consideration in various ways: For example, the dessert “Tornin hätävara” is made of the Tower Café’s leftover cinnamon buns.
– The inspiration for local food in a moss-covered bed came from the breathtaking views from the observation deck and from the mystical woods at the conservation area, Ravintolamestarit Ltd describe their vision.
