Icehockey rinks and skating tracks

Finland Ice Marathon -track

One of the finest natural skating rinks is created every winter on the ice of Lake Kallavesi. The international skating event, Finland Ice Marathon, is held against this beautiful backdrop. The world's best marathon skaters gather on the ice to compete against each other. There are different distances for recreational and competitive skaters. Even moonlight skating is possible.

The skating rinks of Lake Kallavesi are open for all during the late winter. Naturally, skating seasons depend on the thickness of the natural ice.

There are also versatile skating places that have been made on the outdoor courts of schools and on many play parks during winter time. Rinks can be found in various districts of the city. In Lippumäki, Keskuskenttä and Koulupuisto, there are own separated areas for skaters and icehockey players.

Skating rinks are open for free use. However, take into consideration that there might be reservations made beforehand.

In Karttula village centre you can skate free of charge and without a reservation time at the yards of the Kemppaanmäki and Pihkainmäki schools. Also from Nilsiä (Tahkonvuori) you can find a new skating track with lighting from 6am to 10 pm.
