Water areas

Water areas surrounding the city and their landfalls are in vivid recreational use.

The body of water is Lake Kallavesi. Kuopio and the Kallavesi bridges, “Kallansillat”, divide Lake Kallavesi into the southern Kallavesi and the northern Kallavesi.

The City of Kuopio monitors the state of the Lake Kallavesi and manages the lake, for example, by transplanting fish. The species that are transplanted comprise pike-perch, freshwater whitefish, plankton whitefish and brown-trout.
