Studying at comprehensive school

Basic education is general education, which encompasses nine years. This education is free of charge and gives all pupils equal opportunities for further studies. The aim of basic education is to provide pupils good basic skills and knowledge which are needed in everyday life. In addition, comprehensive schools aim to support children in growing to humanity and to membership of an ethically responsible society.

The City of Kuopio provides education in 40 comprehensive schools. Furthermore, some schools have experience in special education services. Private schools in basic education include the Virkkula Steiner school and the Kuopio Christian School.
