Day care and preschool education services will continue

Day care and preschool education services will continue to operate in Kuopio. Also, the preschools located in school buildings continue their work. This ensures access to daycare for those children whose parents work in critical sectors of society and enables the parents to go to work. However, the Finnish Government recommends that children are cared for and kept at home, if possible.

Some day care staff and children may fall ill and drop out of work or daycare due to the coronavirus, which means more special arrangements in everyday life. Special arrangements can be, for example, combining groups or having to change the daycare center temporarily. Parents are reminded that the child should stay home if any flu symptoms occur!

Customer Fees for Daycare

In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Finnish Government has recommended that the child should be cared for at home if possible. The Government recommended that the cities should refund daycare fees to families for the duration of the child's absence.

The City of Kuopio has decided that the daycare customer fee will not be charged between March 23 and April 13, 2020, if notified in advance. The notification has to be made latest on Sunday, March 22 by email or by phone to the day care center’s manager. The customer fee will not be charged either for the period from 18 to 22 March 2020, if the absence is announced in advance and the child is absent until 13th April 2020.

In other situations, we will follow the city's normal customer payment practices.

The refund is possible for all families who are customers of the city of Kuopio’s daycare services.

Precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus

• In daycare centers, the standard of cleaning has been raised and children are emphasized of the importance of hand washing and proper coughing techniques.

• All international and domestic group visits to daycare centers have been cancelled. A great consideration should be done also with individual guests.

• All gatherings and events in daycare centers are cancelled for the time being.

• The city of Kuopio has closed all indoor and outdoor sports venues until April 17, and this means that all sports activities are to be organized in the daycare premises and in the yard.

• Children in daycare will no longer participate in public concerts, performances or similar joint events.
