Kuopio City Theatre is the largest professional theatre in Eastern Finland. Attracting as many as 65,000 people each year, it is especially well-known for its first-rate musical theatre productions and its commitment to producing original Finnish plays. Featuring an average of 300 annual performances (including 8–10 premieres), its repertoire also includes plays for children and young people, visiting productions and co-productions – including collaborations with local schools and colleges.

The theatre houses two stages, both of which are named after local authors. The “Minna” stage (after the celebrated playwright Minna Canth) has 464 seats with a maximum of six wheelchair spaces. This stage is equipped with an induction loop for the hearing impaired. The “Maria” stage (after author and playwright Maria Jotuni) seats 184 including 4 wheelchair spaces. Hearing-impaired audience members may borrow hearing amplifiers from the cloakroom.

Tickets

Theatre tickets are sold at Kuopio Info (located in the underground Apaja Shopping Centre, accessible from the Market Square and Market Hall). Kuopio Info is open Monday to Friday 9.00am–4.00pm. Tickets are also sold at the Theatre box office (Niiralankatu 2).

The box office is open two hours before performances, as well as during events. On Saturdays, the box office is open 12.00 noon–6.00pm.
