Support for Families with Children

The aim of the primary support given to a child, adolescent and his/her family is to enable the child to live and grow at home. Child welfare cooperates with the family, its closest social network and various local authorities. Daycare, maternity and child health clinic, school and youth work are examples of such cooperation partners.

Child welfare work is initiated when there is concern about the welfare, health or development of a child. Family work is one of the important support measures in the open care of the child welfare.

Adult social work for families with children (assessments of the need for social welfare measures and planning-based social work) serves adults in families with children whose children are not clients of the services for families with children as provided in the Child Welfare Act or in the Social Welfare Act.
