Diverse local nature

In the archipelago town of Lehtoniemi’s housing exhibition area of Velhometsä is an approximately one kilometre long nature trail which shows the area’s local nature including species of birds and mammals that co-exist with humans. The path’s signature species is the flying squirrel which lives in Velhometsä.  Many different sized nesting boxes for birds and other boxes for bats and flying squirrels have been supplied to the forest. In the summertime the birds’ nesting activities in their tree boxes can be comfortably observed from the nature trail.

The circuit of the nature trail can be started at Matkusniementie where there is a small car park and a sport activity park named after the wrestler, Eino Leino.   Access on foot to Velhometsä can be gained from many of the nearby walk paths.
