Basic education in the arts

Basic education in the arts is intended primarily for children and young people. It is goal-oriented and takes place on an extracurricular basis. In Kuopio, basic education in the arts is available in five art forms: visual arts, crafts, music, theatre and dance.

The institutions offering basic education in the arts are Kuopio Arts College, Kuopio Dance Studio, Kantele Music School, Kuopio Community College and Kuopio Conservatoire.

Teaching is based on the national core curriculum and follows either a general or an extended syllabus. Basic education provides students with the skills to express themselves through art and to continue their studies in vocational and higher education.
