The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra is continuing its 110-year-old legacy of delighting the locals with musical experiences. The orchestra is the largest professional symphony orchestra in Eastern Finland, consisting of 44 professional musicians. The home venue of the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra is the Kuopio Music Centre Concert hall where most of their concerts are held. The orchestra also performs regularly with different ensembles in kindergartens, schools, nursing homes, and various business events. In addition to the symphonic repertoire, their programme includes a range of entertainment and chamber music for audiences of different ages. The orchestra actively participates in different art education programmes for children and young people, such as a sponsorship programme for children born in Kuopio in 2017. The orchestra has a long-standing partnership with the Kuopio Senior High School of Arts Lumit, and they have collaborated on various projects over the years. The orchestra also collaborates with the Kuopio Music Centre’s music schools and other cultural actors in the city and the wider region. Eugene Tzigane has acted as the Chief Conductor of the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra since the beginning of the 2023. Atso Almila continues as the Second Conductor.
