The summer season of Kuopio city’s museums offers visitors a diverse program

Kuopio’s museums invite visitors to spend the summer enjoying exhibitions, guided tours and events. There is something for all ages, with programs available until the end of August.

Kuopio Museum’s Stardust exhibition and its diverse program can be explored throughout the summer until 2 August. Guided exhibition tours are offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while Thursday mornings are dedicated to children, featuring guided tours for kids and workshops. In the workshops, participants explore constellations and create planet magnets.

One of the highlights of Kuopio Museum’s summer is the National Costume Day on Saturday, 8 August. The event features folk dancing, traditional fiddle music, and a vibrant display of national costumes. National costumes from other countries are also warmly welcomed as part of the day.

The KUMMA’s summer exhibition Viggo & Victor brings together two different artists and art forms. Viggo paints and Victor photographed. They lived in different worlds, at different rhythms and in different centuries. Despite this, they share a common language that allows stories to emerge in the viewer’s mind. The Viggo & Victor summer exhibition is open until 30 August.

There will also be a pre-Midsummer celebration featuring dance and music in KUMMA’s courtyard on Wednesday 17 June, as well as sound bowl relaxation sessions on Wednesday mornings in July.

At the Old Kuopio Museum, visitors can enjoy five distinct summer exhibitions. These exhibitions offer insights into Finnish and Japanese crafts, recycled art, art as a hobby, and a wide range of techniques. In connection with the summer exhibitions, workshops provide opportunities to try activities such as rug weaving and making mizuhiki knots.

The Old Kuopio Museum’s summer is packed with engaging activities. This summer’s program includes guided tours of the museum homes, spinning demonstrations, open play sessions for children and outdoor fitness classes in the park. Guided tours of the Stories of the Houses exhibition are held on Saturdays at 1 pm.

Once again this summer, the Old Kuopio Museum’s summer café, Café Mandariini, will be open until 30 August 2026.
