BarokkiKuopio brings early music back to Kuopio
The early music festival BarokkiKuopio will once again fill Kuopio with memorable experiences and surprising musical encounters. This year’s festival takes place from 15 to 19 July under the theme Water / Flow. The festival invites audiences to explore the movement, fluidity and power of water and air through music.
The BarokkiKuopio programme features the crashing of waves, the gentle lapping of water, the lightness of a summer breeze and the powerful energy of storms. This year’s theme reflects renewal, movement and change, phenomena that are present both in nature and in music.
The festival culminates on Sunday, 19 July, with a closing concert by the European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO). The young musicians of EUBO will take audiences on a musical journey through European baroque music. The concert, In the Flow of Emotions – A Journey Across Europe, offers a taste of musical landscapes from across the continent.
In addition to the closing concert, the BarokkiKuopio program includes some of the best-known Baroque music masterpieces, an exploration of the history of flute music, and encounters between early and contemporary music. Alongside the concert program, visitors can also enjoy experimental music cruises on Lake Kallavesi.
