A sure sign that Christmas is coming to Kuopio is the setting up of a Christmas tree at Kuopio Market square. This year, the Christmas tree was donated by a private landowner. It is about 80 years old and 21 meters high.

The aim was to find a native tree of about 20 meters high, with a good shape and unhardened crown. There was also a ‘reserve tree’ in case the ‘real tree’ is damaged when felled.

The Christmas tree was transported to the Market square by a specially built pallet truck. The tree was set up using a large truck-mounted crane.

The lights will be switched on at the opening of the Christmas season on Saturday 18 November.

In addition to the main Christmas tree, City of Kuopio will deliver over ten smaller Christmas trees to various neighborhoods in the city.

Kuopio City Forestry Department wishes all the residents of Kuopio a peaceful Christmas season!
