Christmas season`s opening in Kuopio will be celebrated on the Market Square on Saturday November 18th

Kuopio city centre’s Christmas starts with the opening of Christmas season at the Market Square and shops on Saturday 18.11.2023 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the day at the Market Square there are: rice porridge, reindeer rides and activities for children, Christmas show on the stage, fireworks and meeting with Santa Claus and his lovely wife.

At the opening of the Christmas season, the most awaited guests are Santa Claus and his wife. You can meet them at the glass pavilion of the square between 11.00-12.30 and 13.00-14.30. You can take Christmas photos with Santa and his wife, chat with them or even leave a message for Santa Claus.

A free rice porridge will be served to the first 500 people at the Market Square from 11.00. The opening of the Christmas season will also offer a chance to see a real reindeer, as adorable reindeers from Tahko will give rides to children. Reindeer rides are available for children from 11.00-14.00, at a cost of €2 per child.

The opening of the Christmas season will be celebrated at 15.00-16.00 with a stage program, including a greeting from Santa Claus and his wife and the lighting of the Christmas tree on the square. Kuopio Cathedral`s singing group will perform Christmas carols and the little ones will be entertained by Miauskis the Cat. There will also be a Luminis light show by Taikatulet group on stage. The event will end with a spectacular fireworks at 16.00.

There will also be a Christmas program and offers in the city centre’s shops on Saturday.
