Since summer, only one platform has been in use at Kuopio railway station. Work has now progressed so that platforms 1 and 2 will also open to passengers on Sunday 10 December 2023, says Finnish Transport Agency in a press release. All three platforms will be available to passengers from then on.

Passenger railway yard section has been completed. Work to renovate Kuopio railway yard started a year ago in September. At the end of October this year, Puijonkatu underpass was completed, which also restored traffic to normal on Puijonkatu Street. The project has renewed the station platforms and platform canopies, as well as the passenger tunnel, with respect for the old. In addition, the station yard has new access signs and lifts to the platforms.

Passenger yard has protected buildings dating back to the 1930s, which were renovated. Passenger platforms were also built, providing unobstructed access to the train. All three platforms have lift access with two new lifts. The sheltered passenger tunnel was restored to its original 1930s appearance.
