The nature trip season is starting
The City of Kuopio’s nature trips and volunteer work events offer you the chance to explore the local outdoors from May through September. Guided trips are available for all ages. The season starts on Monday May 11 with an accessible nature trip to the Keihäsjärvi Lake`s birdwatching tower and the Get to know the Viper event, held at the Kuopio Old Museum.
These trips offer all Kuopio residents the opportunity to explore the local nature and its wildlife, such as wildflowers, birds and bats. Nature conservation work days are used to combat harmful invasive plants such as giant hogweed and lupines, as well as to maintain meadows and traditional landscapes in Antikkala and Pilppa. This summer’s program also includes space walks in the forest and opportunities to explore natural rainwater solutions within the National Urban Park. In addition, the traditional Finnish Nature Day cruise will be held again this summer.
Nature tours are open to everyone and mostly free of charge; they are guided in Finnish, and some tours are also available in English. Advance registration is not required with a few exceptions. Advance registration is required for the birdwatching tour, the workshop on dyeing wool yarn with lupine, and the boat and bus tours due to limited space. Unlike other tours, a €10 participation fee is charged for the boat and bus tours.
