Noise abatement action plan for Kuopio
A noise abatement action plan (pdf) referred to in the EU Environmental Noise Directive, pursuant to section 151 of the Environmental Protection Act, was last prepared in Kuopio in 2018. The update of the noise abatement action plan will begin in spring 2023. A number of reports on the prevailing noise situation and the harmful effects of noise have been produced for the purpose of updating the action plan in 2021–2022. The following reports have been completed:

Noise reports concern road and rail traffic noise in the entire Kuopio area. The reports were prepared using traffic data from 2021. The noise report with its national noise indicators also focused on the road and traffic noise zones of the future. Forecast traffic data for 2035 were used for this part of the report. In addition, noise emitted by the main industrial and energy production facilities in the central urban area and noise emitted by the Heinjoki shooting range and motorsport centre were covered in the report. In this context, aircraft noise in Kuopio has not been separately investigated, as an up-to-date report on the noise zones at Rissala Airport is available.
