Student and youth housing

Kuopio has two rental housing companies for students, Kuopas Oy and Tekman Tuki ry. In total, these companies have about 2,000 rental apartments and about 3,000 residences.

Kuopas Oy is a rental housing company owned by the City of Kuopio, whose apartments are intended for anyone studying in the city. Kuopas has approximately 3,000 student apartments in shared and residential apartments. Several students live together in a shared apartment, which means the cost of living is cheaper. Kuopas has built several new residential buildings in recent years, and the number of one-room apartments, among others, has increased significantly. Kuopas has a total of 29 locations which, in addition to shared and one-room apartments, offer furnished and larger apartments for couples and families.

Tekman Tuki ry was established in the early 1960s to support the housing of students of technology at Savonia University of Applied Sciences in Kuopio. The association has apartments in Puijonlaakso and Saarijärvi. Tekman Tuki ry has a total of about 300 apartments in three different locations.

Young people are equal applicants for Kuopio rental apartments, but in addition to those, young people can also apply for youth apartments dedicated them. The Finnish Youth Housing Association NAL ry offers rental housing for young people who are not studying and facilitates young people’s independence and early stages of living alone. In Kuopio, NAL has five rental buildings dedicated to young people.
