Ice hockey rinks

The upkeep of the outdoor skating rinks will be discontinued on 18 March 2023

You can check the status of each skating rink from the list of facilities.

If the ice hockey goals have been removed and the lights are off in the evening, the rink is closed.

There are several ice hockey rinks around the city, most of them located on school grounds and nearby sports facilities. If there’s enough room, the rink is open for everyone to use free of charge, but prior reservations take priority.

The Kuopionlahti, Neulamäki, Kuvelampi and Koulupuisto rinks have separate areas for hockey players and skaters. The Karttula skating tracks and ice hockey rinks are located in the village, in Syvänniemi and at Pihkainmäki school. The Tahkovuori nearby sports facility in Nilsiä also has a skating rink.

Booking an ice hockey rink

The up-to-date availability of ice hockey rinks can be checked from the Timmi booking calendar. You can also sign up and send booking applications for available (white) time slots. NB! You cannot submit booking applications for the Lippumäki artificial skating rink or the Niirala ice arena yourself.

During the skating season, the changing rooms of the ice hockey and skating rinks are open every day between 8 and 21. You can read more about the skating rinks by clicking on the names of the rinks. Information on all skating facilities can be found on the Outdoor skating facilities page.
